A dedicated lecturer from New College Lanarkshire has been honoured with a Silver award in the FE Lecturer of the Year category at the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards.
Kim Beveridge is among 99 exceptional teachers, lecturers, leaders, support staff and educational institutions recognised as Silver winners on National Thank a Teacher Day, celebrating their commitment and influence.
Kim, who resides in Bellshill, now has the opportunity to compete for the Gold award, which will be presented at a ceremony in London and featured on BBC One's The One Show later this year.
She is only the second lecturer from a Scottish college to achieve this honour, following Neil McMullen, also from New College Lanarkshire.
As a lecturer in Film and TV at New College Lanarkshire, Kim impressed judges with her unique approach to nurturing creativity and talent within her native Lanarkshire.
Kim remarked: "This recognition means a great deal, but I have never viewed my role as solely confined to the classroom. It is about the moment when students realise they have something to say and that people want to hear it. The students I work with have extraordinary stories to tell, and when they begin to see themselves as storytellers, something remarkable happens."
Kim joins a group of Silver winners from across the UK, all acknowledged for exceeding expectations to inspire and transform the lives of young learners.
National Thank a Teacher Day and the Pearson National Teaching Awards are organised by the Teaching Awards Trust, an independent charity established over 25 years ago to honour the transformative power of education and highlight the crucial role of teachers, support staff, colleges, schools and early years educators in inspiring young people daily.
Sir Michael Morpurgo, author, former Children’s Laureate and president of the Teaching Awards Trust, commented: "The dedication and impact of those involved in educating young people is truly remarkable. Their influence extends far beyond the classroom. Long before children find their voice, confidence or calling, there is usually a teacher who helped them get there, working patiently and persistently, often without recognition. That is why National Thank a Teacher Day is so important. It is a rare and well-deserved moment to celebrate our teachers and express our gratitude. I am especially proud to congratulate this year's Silver award winners. In a fast-moving world with high demands, you have chosen to invest your time, energy and passion into future generations, and that is truly worth celebrating. Thank you for the dedication you show every single day."
