Netflix's Office Romance Leaves Viewers Traumatized by Graphic Birth Scene
Netflix's Office Romance Traumatizes with Graphic Birth Scene

Netflix subscribers were left unprepared for an incredibly explicit moment in the raunchy new romantic comedy film Office Romance, which has been described as featuring 'one of the most graphic scenes in modern cinema'.

A Shocking Scene in a Romantic Comedy

Released on Friday, 5th June, Office Romance stars Brett Goldstein of Ted Lasso fame alongside superstar Jennifer Lopez. The film follows a lawyer and an airline CEO whose professional and personal lives become entangled. Lopez portrays formidable yet underestimated CEO Jackie Cruz, while Goldstein plays straight-talking yet awkward Brit Daniel Blanchflower.

As they flout their office's zero-tolerance policy against workplace romance, Jackie's second-in-command Sydney Bloom, played by Betty Gilpin, grows suspicious of their after-hours behaviour. However, Sydney is heavily pregnant and, after refusing to take maternity leave, finds herself giving birth right in the middle of confronting Daniel about his feelings for Jackie.

Viewers React to the Graphic Delivery

The pressure of the situation and strong-arming from Sydney forces the couple to confess they have been sleeping together, and the baby follows soon after in a surprisingly smooth delivery. Despite the childbirth scene being brief, fans have been gobsmacked by the decision to show an incredibly graphic close-up of the baby's crowning head.

Viewers have taken to X to react to the scene, which gained further attention after a viral post encouraged people to fast-forward to the 1 hour and 20 minute mark for a full glimpse. One user said: 'The birth scene in Office Romance is the realest I have ever seen in a movie. What the hell.' Another called it 'one of the most graphic scenes of giving birth in modern cinema'.

A scandalised viewer wrote: 'I think I've been traumatized by the movie Office Romance on Netflix. They literally showed a woman giving birth. And I mean vaginal. I did not need to see that, and don't say it's natural people! I'm fully aware! Good Lord!!!' They added that they still enjoyed the film, calling it a 'cute rom-com'. Another said: 'That birth scene in Office Romance was completely unnecessary,' accompanied by a crying-laughing emoji.

However, not all reactions were negative. One positive post read: 'Watching Office Romance on Netflix. JLO movies are always fashionable and entertaining. Also, nothing could've prepared me for that birth scene. Baby fever cured. Cute movie btw.' Another user reminded fans: 'Everyone complaining about the birth scene in Office Romance — y'all you should be so lucky as to have that be your birth experience.'

Behind the Scenes: The Prosthetic Vagina

Actress Betty Gilpin revealed that the prosthetic vagina used to recreate the realistic childbirth was a little disturbing, but she soon found comfort in her iconic co-star. 'Honestly, I was pretty freaked out when I first saw the prosthetic vagina,' Gilpin admitted to Variety. 'I had a nervous breakdown and then I was like, Oh, but I'll be holding the ultimate working mum's hand, Jennifer Lopez, so what could go wrong?'

Office Romance is available to stream on Netflix.
