Soldier Soldier Cast: Where Are They Now 35 Years On

Soldier Soldier first aired on ITV more than three decades ago, making its debut on 10th June 1991. The military drama, which concluded in 1997, launched many of its cast members to stardom. Set during the post-Cold War era, the series rarely featured actual combat, instead focusing on intense training exercises and the impact of military life on personal relationships. After audience numbers declined following the departure of stars Jerome Flynn and Robson Green at the end of series five, the show was cancelled, with its final episode airing on 9th December 1997 after a 12-episode run.

Miles Anderson

Miles played Lieutenant Colonel Dan Fortune throughout the first two series. His character left the military after a regimental merger and marriage to journalist Rachel. Miles was already an established actor before joining the ITV drama, having appeared in productions such as The Thirty Nine Steps, Sky Bandits and The Legend of Robin Hood. After the series, he secured notable roles in Holby City and Ultimate Force, a wartime drama about SAS operations. He also appeared in Hollywood blockbusters like La La Land, where he played photographer Alistair. Now 78, he is happily married to Bella Merlin and is father to chef Max Anderson and actor Joe Anderson, who featured in Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and Outsiders.

During his time on Soldier Soldier, he was also portraying Andrew Bower in the BBC medical drama Casualty. After leaving the series, he landed a major role on Silent Witness, playing forensic pathologist Leo Dalton across 107 episodes. His most recent appearance was in The War Between the Land and the Sea, where he played Ted Campbell in three episodes of the Doctor Who spin-off.

However, he is most acclaimed for his theatrical work and has also made his mark as a playwright. Jerome and Robson became close friends in real life and formed the music duo Robson and Jerome after leaving the show. Their cover of Unchained Melody was the best-selling track of 1995, and both of their albums reached No.1 on the UK Albums Chart. Jerome has also had an impressive acting career, with roles in Badger, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, Ripper Street and Game of Thrones, where he played Bronn. He previously had a relationship with Game of Thrones co-star Lena Headey, but they parted ways in 2014.

After leaving the show, she appeared in productions such as Dressing for Breakfast, Waking the Dead, Scenes of a Sexual Nature and Hijack. She married actor James Purefoy in 1996, but they divorced in 2002. Two years later, she married actor Toby Merritt.
