A musician with definitive DNA evidence proving he is the love child of Bee Gees star Maurice Gibb has publicly contested claims made by singer Lulu regarding the timing of his conception. Nick Endacott-Gibb, 57, asserts that he was born before Lulu and Maurice Gibb began their relationship, directly contradicting her recent statements.
Lulu's Podcast Remarks Spark Controversy
Speaking on the Louis Theroux podcast this week, Lulu, 77, suggested that Maurice Gibb fathered a son with another woman while they were married. She remarked, "I think he's got a son. It might have happened when we were married. I just found out. He impregnated this girl after a one night stand and he has a son who has had his genes taken. He's a hundred per cent Maurice's."
Nick's Timeline Challenges Lulu's Account
Nick Endacott-Gibb, who confirmed his paternity through an online DNA test in 2019, provides a different narrative. He was born in April 1968, conceived in August 1967. Lulu and Maurice Gibb famously met on Top of the Pops in 1969, embarking on a whirlwind romance that led to their marriage on February 18 of that year. They divorced in 1973.
Nick, from Hove, East Sussex, responds, "I was born in April 1968, conceived in August 1967. Lulu and Maurice weren't married until 1969, after what has been described for decades as a 'whirlwind' romance. Were you together with him, Lulu? Two years does not a whirlwind make. I'm as curious as she is about whether Maurice was with her at the time I was conceived. It was the summer of love, after all!"
Nick's Journey to Discovering His Heritage
Adopted from a children's home at 18 months, Nick enjoyed a happy childhood in East Sussex with his adoptive parents, Peggy and David, who supported his search for his birth parents. He began this quest in his 20s, pausing and resuming in 2001 due to concerns about his medical history.
In 2003, he reunited with his biological mother, Patti Nolder, a former music studio manager, through the Missing You database. Initially believing his father was musician Chris Andrews, a DNA test proved negative, leaving his identity a mystery. Later, Patti's sister revealed that Maurice Gibb was his true father.
DNA Confirmation and Family Reunion
After Maurice Gibb's death in 2003, Nick attempted to contact the remaining Gibb brothers without success. In 2019, he uploaded his DNA profile to an ancestry website, coinciding with Maurice's son Adam Gibb doing the same. The match confirmed Nick as Adam's half-brother, with a 100% genetic link.
This led to connections with other Gibb family members, including Lesley Evans (nee Gibb), the Bee Gees' older sister, and her daughter Debbie, a singer. Nick and Debbie formed the project Cousins Gibb, recording their version of "Tragedy" and performing together.
Embracing His Musical Legacy
Nick, who lives with his partner Jacqui, manager of a chiropractic clinic, spent last Christmas with Lesley and Debbie in Australia. He expresses sadness at never meeting Maurice Gibb but finds solace in his musical heritage. "I'm sad he died before I got the chance to meet him, but his memory lives on in the songs," he says.
This autumn, Nick will reunite with Debbie for The Best of the Bee Gees tribute act's UK tour, and he is releasing an album in May as part of music partnership Mojosonic. Lesley Evans affirms, "I said to Barry [Gibb] if he's Maurice's son, he's Maurice's son. There is no doubt Nick is a Gibb, with his musical genius."
Debbie adds, "It was a beautiful experience," referring to their performances together. Lulu was contacted for comment but has not responded. Nick's band Mojosonic's new album 'Karma's Clock' is set for release in early May.
