Dakota Johnson has spoken out about the red flags she looks for in a partner, following reports of her split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. The 35-year-old actress appeared on the TODAY show alongside her 'Materialists' co-star Chris Evans, where she was asked about her non-negotiable in a relationship. Johnson bluntly replied: 'Like, not an a--h---?' prompting laughter from Evans and co-anchor Craig Melvin.
The actress, who was reportedly engaged to Martin for eight years, did not elaborate on her answer. The couple, first linked in 2017, kept their relationship largely private. They moved into a Malibu mansion together in January 2021, with Johnson telling Elle at the time: 'We both work so much that it's nice to be at home and be cozy and private.'
In March 2024, Johnson gushed about watching Martin perform, telling Bustle: 'I love watching him. I could watch him every day.' However, the couple faced persistent breakup rumours, and this month they reportedly ended their relationship. Johnson was recently spotted in New York City without her engagement ring.
Despite the split, Johnson's relationship with Martin's ex-wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, remains positive. Paltrow told Harper's Bazaar: 'I love her. I can see how it would seem weird because it's sort of unconventional. But I think, in this case, just having passed through it iteratively, I just adore her.'
