The Duke of Kent stepped out to mark Trooping the Colour in London today, and a sweet moment left royal fans in tears. The rarely-seen royal, 90, was spotted filming on his phone while standing on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

A Rare Glimpse of the Duke of Kent

The Duke of Kent, a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II, shares a close bond with King Charles and Queen Camilla. He is often seen at major royal events, having been a working member of the Royal Family since retiring from the British Army in 1976. Trooping the Colour is one of the biggest events he always makes sure to attend.

Joining the King and Queen on the balcony today, fans noticed he appeared to be holding up a mobile phone to film the awaiting crowds below. The moment went down well with royal fans, many of whom took to social media to express their delight.

Fans React on Social Media

Taking to X, one fan commented: "Love the Duke of Kent with (what I think is) his mobile." Another added: "Was the Duke of Kent on his cell phone?" A third wrote: "I have to ask.... Is the Duke of Kent playing on his phone?"

Sharing a video captured by Sky News, another fan said: "The Duke of Kent, 90, using his mobile phone to capture the flypast on the balcony of Buckingham Palace today."

Other Royals on the Balcony

As well as the King and Queen, the balcony appearance featured royals such as the Prince and Princess of Wales, their three children, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and Princess Anne. Sir Timothy Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester also made an appearance.

Earlier in the day, during the procession, Prince William, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward rode horseback.
