Sir Elton John flew to Sicily to perform at Dua Lipa and Callum Turner's wedding on June 6, but his worsening eyesight caused concern. The 79-year-old musician reportedly struggled to see during the performance and required assistance.
Wedding Celebrations in Italy
The couple had a civil ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in London before hosting a lavish three-day celebration at Villa Balguarnera in Baheria, near Palermo. Elton sang his classic hit 'Your Song' at their request.
Elton traveled by private jet to attend the event. Insiders told The Sun: 'He played and sang amazingly, but seemed frail and had to be helped.' Two assistants guided him to the piano.
Return Journey and Health Concerns
After the wedding, Elton and his husband David Furnish were seen at Palermo airport on June 7, flying back to Farnborough. David guided Elton by hand during check-in. The one-night return flight reportedly cost £50,000.
Elton has been open about his vision loss, having lost sight in his right eye. His left eye is also affected. He told Variety: 'It's been devastating. I haven't been able to see anything, watch anything, or read anything for 15 months.'
Despite this, he remains optimistic: 'I've had the most incredible life, and there is hope. I just gotta be patient. Once science helps me, I'll be fine.'
Support from Family and Friends
David Furnish reported improvements in Elton's left eye through treatments. Elton credits his family and friends, including Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, and Keith Richards, for keeping his spirits high.
