Former Emmerdale actor Matthew Wolfenden has revealed he is undergoing surgery on his knee. The 43-year-old, who played David Metcalfe on the ITV soap for nearly two decades, shared a photo from his hospital bed on Instagram on Tuesday, writing: 'Ready to go down for surgery on my knee.' He did not provide further details about his condition.
Wolfenden left Emmerdale last year after 17 years, with his character David last appearing in November. In an interview on This Morning at the time, he said: 'I am so nervous about leaving, nearly 20 years, almost two decades. It feels like the right time, the door has been left open - they're not killing me off, I've been promised. Who knows, I might be back [in the future].'
David's departure storyline saw him leave the village to visit his ex-partner Priya Sharma and their daughter Amba. His exit came after he discovered his son Jacob had a relationship with Victoria Sugden, who had previously dated David. Earlier this month, David was mentioned on the show when his family received news that he has no plans to return, with Eric Pollard revealing he has decided to stay with Priya 'forever.'
