Oscar-winning actor Sir Gary Oldman has revealed that the Prince of Wales is a fan of the TV series Slow Horses, after receiving a knighthood for services to drama at Windsor Castle. The 67-year-old London-born star said he felt 'very emotional' as he accepted the honour from Prince William on Tuesday.
During the ceremony, the prince told Sir Gary that every time he sees him on screen as the unkempt MI5 agent Jackson Lamb in Apple TV's Slow Horses, 'I just want to give you a good wash'. The actor joked in reply: 'Well, I think I've scrubbed up OK today.'
Sir Gary, known for his versatile roles including Sir Winston Churchill and Sid Vicious, said the knighthood 'compares to nothing else' and that even his Oscar win 'pales in comparison'. He added: 'It was emotional. Very emotional. I almost couldn't find my voice.'
The actor also discussed the upcoming Harry Potter TV series, saying he would have considered playing Albus Dumbledore if asked, but felt he was too old to reprise his role as Sirius Black. He described Slow Horses as 'one of the most enjoyable jobs I've had in 47 years'.
