Gethin Jones is a beloved Welsh TV presenter, best known for hosting BBC's Morning Live alongside Helen Skelton. But who is his famous ex-fiancée?
Early Life and Career
The 48-year-old played rugby union at Manchester Metropolitan University before starting his TV career on Welsh language channel S4C, presenting children's programmes such as Popty, Mas Draw and Uned 5. In 2005, he became the 31st presenter of BBC's Blue Peter. Since 2020, he has presented the weekday magazine show Morning Live from Salford, alongside Helen Skelton, Michelle Ackerley, Gaby Roslin, and Janette Manrara.
Gethin has also appeared on Celebrity MasterChef, comedy drama Stella, and competed on Strictly Come Dancing in season 5. Some fans may be surprised to learn he was briefly engaged to a very famous Welsh star.
Engagement to Katherine Jenkins
Gethin met Welsh opera singer Katherine Jenkins in 2007 while he was on Strictly. They announced their engagement in February 2011 but split in December that year. Speaking on Tom Bryant's Outdoors in Mind podcast, Gethin said: "I was engaged and then breaking up... it was just awful... I definitely had a bad bout of depression during that time." He sought counselling and therapy for a couple of years. Katherine later married American painter Andrew Levitas in 2014, and they have two children.
Other Romances
Three years after his split from Katherine, Gethin had a brief romance with former TOWIE star Lucy Mecklenburgh in August 2014, after meeting at a Give Me Sport event. Lucy said: "We went out a few times... but it was bad timing." He also dated model Katja Zwara in 2017 and was rumoured to be involved with First Dates waitress Cici Coleman, though neither confirmed a relationship.
Co-Star Rumours Denied
Speculation about a romance with Morning Live co-host Helen Skelton has been firmly denied. In December 2025, Helen said: "We just work together, we are not together. No, no, no. We are just work friends." Gethin told The Sun: "We are very supportive of each other... You might need a little pep talk every now and then."
Morning Live airs weekdays on BBC One at 9.30am.
