Model Jess Megan Opens Up About Boyfriend's Tragic Death and Her Grief Journey
Jess Megan, the model who starred in Channel 4's documentary Bring Back The Bush in 2020, has publicly revealed the devastating loss of her boyfriend Ollie in a deeply emotional social media post. After a four-year hiatus from online platforms, Megan returned to share a poignant video and caption detailing her harrowing experience with grief following his unexpected passing in March.
A Sudden and Heartbreaking Loss
In her Instagram post, Jess Megan explained that Ollie died from sudden adult death syndrome, a condition where he went to bed and did not wake up. His flatmate contacted her to deliver the tragic news. Weeks earlier, on February 4, she had first discussed his death on the Distraction Pieces podcast, describing him as someone she "adored" and with whom she was "deeply in love."
The Raw Reality of Grief
The video shared by Megan features twelve clips chronicling her emotional state over the year after Ollie's death. In March, she revealed she slept on his grave, showing a bloodied nose in the footage. By June, she was crying and wrote, "It's summer and I don't leave the house for months." Her struggle intensified through the summer months.
In July, Megan admitted she could not stop drinking and had ceased communication with others. August saw her describe herself as "out of her mind," and by September, she was smoking forty cigarettes daily. The physical toll became severe in October when she was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack.
A Message of Hope Amid Despair
In her lengthy caption, Megan wrote candidly about her actions in the immediate aftermath, including walking barefoot in a bathrobe to tell strangers about her loss, drinking boxes of wine, and smoking excessively. She stated, "Grief made me feral" and described the agony of waking from dreams where she saw him, only to relive the loss anew.
She emphasised that grief is costly, robbing one of good health, judgment, happiness, friends, confidence, self-discipline, hygiene, sleep, and time. However, Megan also offered a message of resilience, asserting, "What I want people to know, is that there is a way out. Whatever your situation is." She acknowledged that the path through grief is non-linear and challenging, comparing it to a gruelling obstacle course while others seem on an easy hike.
Megan encouraged others by saying, "You're actually capable of anything... Life can't be good again. But it can be and it will. Just take every day in minutes." She signed off with, "I love you, nugget. It'll be alright."
