Perrie Edwards has alleged that Zayn Malik cheated on her with Gigi Hadid, revealing an 'overlap' between their relationships. The former Little Mix star, 32, spoke candidly on the podcast Great Company with Jamie Laing, claiming that Zayn cast Gigi in the music video for his debut solo single 'Pillowtalk' despite telling Perrie the song was a love letter to her.
A Painful Revelation
Perrie and Zayn dated from 2011 to 2015 and got engaged in 2013, but their romance ended when Zayn quickly moved on with supermodel Gigi Hadid. Until now, neither party had publicly addressed the cheating rumors, though fans speculated after Little Mix released 'Shout Out To My Ex' in 2016. Perrie confirmed the overlap, stating: 'There was a bit of an overlap, you see. When you're moving on with somebody else, you're always getting on better. When you're the one left behind, it's hard—you think they've left you for someone more beautiful, better than you.'
The 'Pillowtalk' Video Incident
Perrie described breaking down upon seeing Gigi in the 'Pillowtalk' video, which Zayn had claimed was about her. 'Then you have a song that they've written about you, but then someone else in the video. It was one thing after another. Finding out about that was the nail in the coffin. I started crying my eyes out, and my dad started crying too. He said, 'I don't know how I can take this pain away,' and I replied, 'You can't. Nobody can. This is hellish.''
Moving On
Zayn dated Gigi on and off from 2015 to 2021, and they share a daughter, Khai, born in 2020. However, Zayn recently claimed he has never been in love before. Meanwhile, Perrie has found happiness with fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with whom she shares two children: son Axel, 4, and baby daughter Alanis Valentine. She describes their relationship as 'healthy love.'
Respecting Privacy
Perrie hinted there is more to the story but chose to respect Zayn's privacy. 'There's so much people don't know that I would never say, even though I have just spilled some beans. There's so much that went into it that I would never talk about. It was really hard.'
