A pet monkey named Choke, owned by the victim's grandfather, attacked and killed a 6-year-old boy in Thailand. The animal was tied to a bamboo post but reached the child.
Attack Details
Seven-year-old Ekkarat Srichan was playing outside his home in Nakhon Si Thammarat when the monkey, named Choke, attacked. The primate wrestled the boy to the ground and bit his throat, puncturing a lung. Ekkarat was rushed to Sichon Hospital but died on June 6.
Monkey's History
The male macaque was rescued by the boy's grandfather and had a known aggressive streak. Residents reported it would growl and bare its fangs, and it had previously killed a stray cat while tied to the same post.
Aftermath
After the attack, the grandfather released the monkey into nearby mountains, prompting a police hunt. Officers found the animal in a tree but initially abandoned it due to aggression. It was later captured. The grandfather expressed regret, saying he would not keep the monkey anymore.
The mother, Daranee Srichan, 27, said the bite punctured her son's lung and hit a vital area. She vowed not to keep dangerous pets again.
