Sam Thompson Undergoes Vocal Cord Surgery to Remove Cyst

Sam Thompson has shared a health update after undergoing surgery to remove a cyst on his vocal cords. The presenter, known for his work on reality TV and radio, revealed last month that he needed the procedure, which would leave him unable to talk for a period.

Speaking on his podcast 'Staying Relevant' with best friend Pete Wicks, Thompson explained: 'I've got a cyst on my vocal cords. I'm having that taken out, which is going to be mad because it means I have three days of vocal rest.' According to the NHS, vocal cord nodules are non-malignant swellings that arise on the edges of the vocal cords, often due to excessive force over time.

Thompson underwent the procedure on Tuesday and shared a selfie on Instagram, writing: 'Day 1 of no speaking… I am so bored. Although I am LOVING seeing all the cat memes you're sending!!' In a video from hospital, he said: 'I'm having vocal cord surgery – this has been in the diary for a while, I had a cyst on my vocal cords. It's because I talk too much and shout too loudly and I keep losing my voice really easily.'

The star admitted to feeling nervous about being put under anaesthesia for the first time, saying: 'I'm a bit nervous, I don't like not being in control.' He is now on vocal rest as part of his recovery.
