Suzanne Shaw Breaks Down in Tears Over 'Messy' Split from Fiancé Sam Greenfield

In a raw and emotional Instagram video posted on Friday, former Hear'Say singer Suzanne Shaw, 44, broke down in tears as she detailed her 'messy and unexpected' breakup from fiancé Sam Greenfield. The singer revealed that the couple split in January, marking the end of a relationship that began with their engagement in 2014 and included the birth of their son Rafferty in 2015.

A Journey of Personal Development and Sobriety

Overcome with emotion, Suzanne explained that she has been on a profound journey of 'real personal development' since the separation. She expressed gratitude for having the tools to navigate this difficult period sober, having quit alcohol six years ago. 'I've not been online for a little while because I've just been navigating some stuff in my life which is a breakup that I'm going through at the moment when I genuinely did not expect I'd be saying this out loud,' she said, her voice trembling.

'It's been tough, it's been really tough and I wasn't actually even going to say anything online but I just thought like the nature of my account is all about mental health, my struggles with my mental health, quitting alcohol, changing my lifestyle, taking up running, all of the things that have just brought my stability,' Suzanne continued. She emphasized that while the situation has been challenging, her commitment to sobriety and self-improvement has provided crucial support.

Tools for Healing and Self-Love

Suzanne described how she has leaned into various coping mechanisms during this time, including therapy, meditation, running, and maintaining a healthy diet. 'And now things have just taken a different road, taken a different path. It's been tricky but my goodness thank god I have got the tools to navigate this,' she stated. 'And thank god it's been six years of not drinking, six years of really dedicating my life to my personal development.'

She acknowledged that the process hasn't been perfect, describing it as 'a little bit messy,' but highlighted her ability to tap into resources for healing. 'I've certainly been able to tap into therapy, I've been able to tap into meditation, a little bit of running, understanding that I need to eat well,' Suzanne shared. 'And understanding that I need to just lean into this pain and heal and it is a new chapter of deep healing because for me, I am going into the era of having the greatest love affair with myself.'

In her caption, Suzanne asked fans to 'respect' her privacy by not delving into the specifics of the breakup, focusing instead on her personal growth journey.

Past Relationships and Personal Struggles

This breakup adds to Suzanne's complex romantic history. She was previously engaged to Celebrity Big Brother star Darren Day, with whom she shares her 21-year-old son Corey. Their relationship ended dramatically when Darren walked out on Suzanne and their seven-week-old son on Mother's Day in 2005, as she battled postnatal depression. Reports at the time indicated he uttered the phrase 'I don't do family.'

Speaking about the incident on Vanessa Feltz's Channel 5 show last year, Suzanne revealed that her ex 'pretty much went out to get a curry and didn’t come back' and said her development of postnatal depression was 'no surprise.' Darren famously began his romance with Suzanne while both were engaged to other people. He later married Stephanie Dooley, divorcing in 2019 after she took him back following his infidelity with Suzanne.

Two years before her engagement to Sam Greenfield, Suzanne was married to Heart FM presenter Jason King, 51. Their marriage lasted from 2009 until their separation in 2012, adding another layer to her relationship timeline.

Moving Forward with Self-Healing

As she nears March, Suzanne expressed readiness to embrace this new phase. 'I've not known what to say since the start of January but here I am, nearly in March now ready to just go this journey of total true self healing and giving myself the highest quality of love that I should have done a long time ago,' she concluded. Her heartfelt message underscores a commitment to self-care and resilience amid personal upheaval.
