Netflix fans are threatening to cancel their subscriptions after the streaming giant announced that the beloved series Gilmore Girls will leave its US library on June 30. The complete seven-season boxset, which has been available on Netflix for 12 years, is set to depart, marking the end of an era for devoted viewers.
Netflix Confirms Departure
Netflix took to X (formerly Twitter) to share the news, posting: "It's a show? It's a lifestyle. It's a religion. We are sorry to say that Gilmore Girls seasons one to seven will be leaving Netflix in the US on June 30. Raising a cup of coffee to every fan who visited Stars Hollow with us." The announcement was met with a wave of negative reactions from subscribers.
Fan Backlash
Many fans expressed their disappointment and frustration online. One user exclaimed, "Sounds like I'm cancelling my membership then!" Another wrote, "I'm not even half way," accompanied by crying emojis, asking, "Where do I finish it now." A third commented, "First they come for Sex And The City now this... will have to cancel now." Others rushed to binge-watch the series before the deadline, with one saying, "Me rushing to watch every season before the end of June," and another admitting, "The only reason I pay for Netflix is to rewatch Gilmore Girls on repeat. UK Viewers Spared for Now
Fortunately for British fans, there is no indication that Gilmore Girls will leave Netflix UK anytime soon. All seven seasons remain available, along with the 2016 limited series Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. However, the four-part revival was produced under a 10-year exclusive licensing deal with Warner Bros, which will expire on November 25, 2026. As a result, A Year in the Life will also depart Netflix US before the end of the year, though its fate for UK viewers remains uncertain.
