Tina O'Brien has publicly praised her daughter Scarlett Thomas for her singing talent after the 16-year-old decided to skip her GCSEs to pursue a career in music. The Coronation Street star shared a video on Instagram of Scarlett performing a cover of Tate McRae's 'Tit For Tat', captioning it: 'Couldn't be prouder of Scarlett. Her voice gives me goosebumps... Watching her grow into her own sound is pure magic.'
Scarlett, who regularly posts singing videos on TikTok, has expressed her desire to follow in the footsteps of her famous family and work in showbiz. She made her television debut in 2023 on the BBC drama Waterloo Road, playing the daughter of her real-life uncle, Adam Thomas. Her father, Ryan Thomas, is also a Coronation Street star, while her other uncle, Scott Thomas, appeared on Love Island.
Despite her family connections, Ryan has insisted that Scarlett does not receive a 'free ride' as a 'nepo baby'. He stated: 'She worked damn hard to get that job... she's up against other people and she's not getting a free ride.' Scarlett has amassed a substantial social media following, with 204,000 followers on TikTok and 142,000 on Instagram, and is predicted to earn up to £2 million before turning 18.
PR expert Lynn Carratt commented on the family's strategic use of social media, saying: 'It's clear they're a close-knit family who understand how to use social media effectively to build their careers. They capitalise on TikTok trends, and each member is talented in their own right.'
