As Scotland prepares for their first World Cup in 28 years, the Tartan Army is gearing up for the highly anticipated return, with the tournament kicking off Thursday evening in Mexico City. Scotland's first match against Haiti is scheduled for Saturday, June 12 at Gillette Stadium in Boston, kicking off at 9pm local time and broadcast live on the BBC at 2am in the UK. This is the first of three group games, with matches against Morocco and Brazil to follow.
Royal Support for Scotland
The Royal Family has deep ties to Scotland, and former royal butler Grant Harrold believes one senior royal will be backing Scotland despite England also competing. Speaking to Heart Bingo Online, Harrold revealed that Princess Anne is likely to support the Scottish team. 'Princess Anne, I know she's a rugby girl, but I think when it comes to football, I can see her supporting Scotland,' he said. 'It's almost an unwritten rule. She is very proud of her Scottish roots and her connections, so her choice to follow them through the tournament will reflect this.'
Prince William and Kate's Involvement
Harrold also commented on the Prince and Princess of Wales, noting their passion for football. 'William is very passionate about football and I've seen Kate at football matches with the scarf on, so I think she is a fan in a sense. I can see them sitting down having a cheer at the television for a football match,' he said. He added that Kate has become more involved due to William's influence.
Harry and Meghan's Role
Regarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who reside in the US, Harrold suggested they will likely share an online post wishing all teams good luck before the tournament begins in Mexico City.
Bank Holiday Debate
Harrold, who served as a royal butler to King Charles and Queen Camilla for over 14 years, also weighed in on the possibility of a bank holiday if Scotland or England wins the World Cup. He called it 'only fair' after the monarch granted a bank holiday to Scotland on Monday, June 15 for qualifying.
