The BBC has announced that its comedy series 'Mammoth' will return for a third series, with filming set to begin in Wales this year. The show, which debuted in 2024, follows Tony Mammoth, a PE teacher from the 1970s who was presumed dead in an avalanche during a school trip in 1979, only to be found preserved in time and revived in the modern day.
The upcoming series will consist of five episodes and will see Tony continuing to navigate a world he barely recognises. According to the BBC, Tony's 'thin skin and inability to keep his thoughts to himself' often land him in trouble. Star Mike Bubbins, who plays Tony, said: 'He's back funnier, bolder, and dafter than ever.'
The series also stars Sian Gibson as Tony's daughter. Co-writers Mike Bubbins, Paul Doolan, and Luke Mason have been praised for their work. Josh Cole, CCO of BBC Studios fiction and comedy, described the show as 'a big, bold, laugh out loud creation from a unique voice.'
Jon Petrie, the BBC's director of comedy, called the series 'warm, daft, joyful and full of heart,' adding that audiences have taken Tony Mammoth 'to their hearts.' The show has received positive feedback, with one critic calling it 'an absolute gem of a comedy' and viewers describing it as 'cracking' and 'one of the best recent comedies.'
'Mammoth' will air on BBC iPlayer, BBC Two, and BBC One Wales.
