BBC1's Call the Midwife concluded its third series with over 8 million viewers, securing a 28.9% audience share between 8pm and 9pm on Sunday. The drama, which has been recommissioned for a fourth series, saw the departure of star Jessica Raine.
The finale faced competition from the second half of the final series of ITV's Dancing on Ice, which attracted 6.2 million viewers (24% share) between 7pm and 9pm. BBC2's Top Gear, airing the first part of a Burma special, drew 5.4 million viewers (19.1%).
Elsewhere, Channel 4's Crufts: Best in Show had 1.4 million viewers (5.5%), followed by the terrestrial premiere of One Day with 1.2 million (6.4%). In the 9pm drama slot, ITV's Mr Selfridge won with 4.9 million (21.5%), ahead of BBC1's The Musketeers with 4.7 million (20.4%). Both shows have been renewed.
Earlier on Sunday, BBC1's live Six Nations rugby coverage of England's 29-18 win against Wales averaged 5.4 million viewers (40.1%) between 3pm and 4.45pm. Full coverage from 2.30pm to 5pm averaged 4.7 million (36.3%).
On Saturday, BBC1's The Voice attracted 6.7 million (29.3%) but lost to ITV's Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway with 7 million (29.1%). BBC4's Belgian drama Salamander concluded with 851,000 (3.9%) and 785,000 (4%) for its double bill.
