Actress Denise Black, best known for her role in Coronation Street, has revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. The 65-year-old kept her diagnosis private while undergoing treatment.
Black, who played Denise Osbourne in the ITV soap, said she discovered a lump during the first lockdown in 2020. She underwent a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, followed by hormone therapy.
The actress said she decided to speak out now to encourage others to check themselves regularly. She described her treatment as 'brutal' but said she is now doing well.
Black is currently starring in the play 'The Last Laugh' at the Queen's Theatre in Hornchurch. She said returning to work has been a 'godsend' for her mental health.
