EastEnders character Lola Pearce, played by Danielle Harold, will be diagnosed with a brain tumour in upcoming episodes. The storyline will see Lola undergo surgery after collapsing and suffering a seizure.
Lola is found by Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) and Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) after a dizzy spell and seizure, and is rushed to hospital. Doctors inform her that the tumour may be cancerous.
The BBC soap has worked with Brain Tumour Research and Macmillan Cancer Support to ensure accurate and sensitive portrayal. Danielle Harold is leaving the show, meaning the storyline will end with Lola's death.
Harold said: 'It means so much to be trusted with a storyline like this – one that’s close to many people’s hearts. Sadly many of our viewers will be able to relate to Lola’s story and it’s been heart-breaking to speak to the families affected by brain tumours and hear their stories.'
The scenes air from Monday 31 October on BBC One.
