Emmerdale has confirmed that newcomer Celia is the true villain behind the county lines drug storyline, not Ray as previously believed. In Thursday's episode, Celia was revealed to be the mastermind, with Ray acting under her control. It also emerged that Celia raised Ray after finding him on the streets years ago, making her a mother figure to him.
The revelation came as April struggled with the consequences of dropping drugs at Celia's home. When April decided to confess everything to the police, Celia's persona shifted dramatically. She threatened the teen, forcing her to lie about the drugs' origin and warning her against exposing Ray or herself.
Celia's control over Ray was starkly displayed when he cowered in fear before her, showing that his fierce behaviour was all an act. Actress Jaye Griffiths, who plays Celia, confirmed that more drama is ahead, stating: 'At last the audience have seen the familial link between her and Ray and the fact she is the mastermind behind it all.'
Emmerdale has collaborated with The Salvation Army for this storyline, which continues to explore the dangers of county lines drug exploitation. Meanwhile, Robert Sugden faces his own turmoil as he struggles to tell his husband Kev about his reunion with ex-husband Aaron Dingle, while Kev grapples with a terminal diagnosis.
