A Married at First Sight bride has shared her disappointment after booking a £480-a-night luxury hotel room on the Gold Coast, only to find it in an 'awful' state. Samantha Moitzi, who appeared on season nine of the reality show, had reserved a lagoon suite at the Sheraton Grand Mirage for a 30th birthday staycation with a close friend.
In a TikTok video posted on Wednesday, Samantha showed the reality of the room, which contrasted sharply with the idyllic photos on the hotel's website. The lagoon area was murky, emptied out, and filled with mud and garden debris. The deck furniture was covered in dirt and ants and appeared not to have been cleaned.
'We decided to a staycation and pick a nice hotel for me and one of my close friend's 30th birthdays,' she said. 'The Sheraton on the Gold Coast is meant to be really nice. So I said let's book the Tranquil Lagoon Room (at $600 per night), it looks really good. But this is what we got...'
The video quickly went viral, amassing millions of views and 1.1 million likes. Many commenters expressed shock and shared their own negative experiences with Gold Coast resorts. One user wrote: 'Omggggg that’s awful! Highly recommend the Langham Gold Coast.'
Fortunately, the hotel manager saw the video and upgraded Samantha and her friend to a suite. In an update video, she said: 'So Dan the manager just called us and he's given the girls an upgrade.' The new room appeared to be the Presidential Suite, with ocean views and fluffy white bath robes.
