Strictly Come Dancing Reverts Format After Viewer Complaints

Strictly Come Dancing has made a significant format change following viewer backlash. The BBC show, currently midway through its latest series, had introduced a new structure for the dance-off announcement that left some couples unable to speak to host Claudia Winkleman. After complaints, the show reverted to its original format.

In the new format, the two couples at risk of elimination were announced together, meaning the four couples who were safe did not get to discuss their performances and feelings. This week, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Karen Hauer, along with Amber Davies and Nikita Kuzmin, were among those who avoided the dance-off. Under the revised format, they were able to speak to Claudia, with Amber becoming emotional as she expressed concern about letting Nikita down.

The change came as model Ellie Goldstein was eliminated, losing to EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal in the Halloween special. Ellie's professional partner, Vito Coppola, praised her warmly, calling her a "beautiful angel" and the best "little sister." He promised they would continue dancing together in the future.

Meanwhile, hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have announced they will leave the show after two decades, with their final appearance set for Christmas. New presenters are expected to take over for the next series.
