Wedding bells are ringing in Coronation Street as Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) receives a major surprise when her mother's boyfriend, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), pops the question. Since birth, Bethany has seen a revolving door of stepfathers. Her mother, Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien), became pregnant with Bethany as a teenager, and Bethany's biological father, Neil Fearns, died in a car crash years later.
Sarah's Romantic History
Sarah has had her pick of Weatherfield legends over the years. She briefly dated her best friend Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) before he came out as gay by kissing her brother Nick Tilsley (Ben Price). She then began a turbulent on-again, off-again relationship with his brother Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas) in revenge. The couple got engaged and eventually married, but it didn't last. Other conquests include murderous gangster Callum Logan (Sean Ward) and a stable marriage to lawyer Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson), which ended when Sarah cheated with drug dealer Damon Hay (Ciarán Griffiths).
Sarah's attraction to bad boys also included the scariest builder on the Cobbles, Gary Windass (Mikey North). This attraction was shared by Bethany, whose obsession with Sarah's boyfriend caused a rift between mother and daughter.
Kit Green's Proposal
Doing a complete 180 from dating criminals, Sarah began a romance with police officer DS Kit Green. Bethany's introduction to her future stepdad was rocky: Kit arrested her in late 2025 for taking her boss's car without permission. After strong rumors and storylines involving an affair with Kit, fans were blindsided by the revelation that Kit had been dating Sarah all along.
Kit is dedicated and career-driven, and he happens to be investigating Gary for the murder of Theo Silverton (James Cartwright). This is interesting because Sarah has been growing closer to Gary again ever since she was attacked by the unhinged Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) on the night of Theo's murder. So much so that Gary's wife, Maria (Samia Longchambon), is starting to get suspicious, especially when Gary leaps to his ex's defence over the slightest thing.
While Maria's suspicions rage and the murder investigation continues, Kit thinks it's the perfect time to pop the question to Sarah in upcoming scenes. But being old school, he decides to ask permission first from Bethany. Getting Bethany alone, Kit confides that he's thinking of asking Sarah to marry him. How will Bethany react?
