Red Rum Club's 'Bucket List' Coronation at Liverpool Pier Head
Red Rum Club's Coronation at Liverpool's Pier Head

Red Rum Club headlined Friday night's On the Waterfront at the Pier Head, delivering the biggest show of their lives in what frontman Fran Doran called 'bucket list s**t'. The six-piece Merseyside band performed before thousands of passionate fans, with Liverpool's iconic waterfront as a backdrop.

A Decade in the Making

For Red Rum Club, headlining On the Waterfront was not just another festival slot. It was the culmination of ten years of building a dedicated fan base, both in Liverpool and across the world. As thousands sang along to every song, many sporting band t-shirts, the event felt less like a gig and more of a coronation. There is little doubt that Red Rum Club are the biggest and best Liverpool band currently operating.

Addressing the crowd, Doran said: 'Being from this city, your support means so, so much to us. It's probably one of the only ways we're going to make a million quid – either be good at football or be a rock star,' he joked. 'Honestly though, your support means the world. If you've done anything to support Red Rum Club in the past, thank you very much.'

A Hometown Performance to Remember

Bathed in sunshine and below a vanilla sky, Red Rum Club delivered the kind of hometown headline performance bands dream about. The atmosphere was celebratory, as fans sang every word from a five-album back catalogue that has carried the band from local hopefuls to one of Liverpool's biggest musical success stories.

Musically, the band were razor sharp, with fan-favourites 'Would You Rather Be Lonely' and 'Vibrate' delivered with gusto, while their rendition of 'Brando' was heartfelt. The emotional connection between band and audience elevated the evening beyond a standard festival headline slot, to something more akin to a party where all your friends are invited.

Musical Excellence

RRC's trademark trumpet flourishes soared across the waterfront while the rhythm section drove the set forward with relentless energy. The crowd response rarely dipped, with fans bouncing, chanting and singing along from front to back. It's hard to overstate just how much of the band's distinctive sound hinges on the brass accompaniment, so when original member Joe 'The Blow' Corby announced his departure in April, there were big questions about what direction Red Rum Club would take.

Fans needn't have worried, however, because the addition of Eli Younger on the trumpet proved to be an inspired choice, as he belted out the band's repertoire like he'd been playing the music for years.

A Milestone Event

By the time the final songs rang out across the Mersey, it was clear everyone present understood they had witnessed something significant. Not just a concert, but a milestone. Ten years after starting out, Red Rum Club returned home and delivered the biggest show of their lives. Judging by the reaction, it won't remain their biggest for very long.
