Richard Madeley has disclosed that he sleeps in a separate bedroom from his wife Judy Finnigan when presenting on Good Morning Britain. The veteran broadcaster shared the personal detail on the White Wine Question Time podcast, explaining that his early wake-up time for the show influences their sleeping arrangements.
Madeley, who has been a household name alongside Finnigan since the 1980s, said he chooses to rest in the spare room on work nights to avoid disturbing his wife's sleep. 'When I'm doing Good Morning Britain I sleep in the spare room,' he revealed. 'I do probably sleep a little bit better in bed with Judy but I'm okay on my own.'
The presenter emphasised his consideration for Finnigan, stating: 'I wouldn't think of doing that to Judy. Apart from anything else, Judy and her sleep, you do not mess with.' Finnigan stepped back from regular TV appearances nearly a decade ago after her stint on Loose Women, and Madeley noted she is 'really enjoying' her time away from the screen.
During the podcast, host Kate Thornton referenced Amol Rajan, another early-rising presenter, who reportedly 'sleeps better' next to his spouse. Madeley quipped: 'Amol Rajan's wife must be a saint.' He contrasted his current situation with his and Finnigan's time co-hosting This Morning, when they woke and slept at the same time.
The couple first met in the 1980s while working at Granada TV. Madeley recalled being smitten after hearing Finnigan reprimand an executive for a sexist remark, thinking: 'I'm going to marry her.' They wed in 1986 and have two children together, with Finnigan also having two children from a previous marriage.
