A Suffolk man has described his shock after old film footage of his late wife, who died in childbirth, appeared on Strictly Come Dancing during a Remembrance Day tribute.
Trevor Mason, of Felixstowe, said the clip showed his wife Penny, who died aged 26 in 1975, taking part in an RAF parachute jump in 1969. The footage was part of a montage featuring British Pathé clips on Sunday's results show.
Mr Mason's daughter Claire, who now lives in New Zealand, saw the footage for the first time. 'She is absolutely flabbergasted,' he said. 'That's the first time ever she has seen her mother other than in photos. She's watched it over and over again... it is beyond belief.'
The discovery came after a cousin spotted Mrs Mason in the tribute and contacted Mr Mason. He then watched the programme on iPlayer and saw about 10 seconds of black-and-white footage. 'I felt really emotional, flabbergasted - just unreal,' he said.
Mrs Mason died the day after giving birth to Claire by Caesarean section, following a brain haemorrhage. After the broadcast, Mr Mason appealed on BBC Radio Suffolk for any further footage from the jump, leading Strictly producers to locate the full film.
