New Met Office charts reveal that parts of Britain will experience bands of rain on Monday, even as forecasters warn of an impending intense heatwave. The weather maps indicate wet weather sweeping across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, and Wales throughout the day, while much of the south and east remains largely dry.
Forecast Details
The forecasts come after weather maps turned "volcanic red," with parts of England expected to see temperatures as high as 37°C by the end of next week. As the hot air builds, forecasters have warned that increasingly humid conditions could bring a risk of thunderstorms.
The Met Office said in its outlook for Monday to Wednesday: "An extreme heat warning is in place next week in parts of the south and southeast. The heat will become widespread; turning humid, and this brings the risk of thunderstorms."
Monday's Rainfall
Monday's rainfall maps suggest a split in conditions across Britain, with showers and longer spells of rain in some regions while others bask in soaring temperatures ahead of the looming heat blast.
The latest Met Office weather maps show the first rain arriving across western Scotland and Northern Ireland from the early hours of Monday, with outbreaks of rain from around 3am. By 6am, wet weather is forecast to spread into parts of northern England and Wales, while showers become more widespread across western Britain.
The heaviest bursts are shown around 9am, affecting swathes of Scotland, Northern Ireland, and northern England. By midday, scattered showers extend into parts of the Midlands and the South West, although much of the southeast remains dry.
The maps suggest the rain will become increasingly patchy by 3pm, before lingering across parts of Scotland and northern Britain into the evening. By late afternoon and early evening, the remaining showers are forecast to ease, leaving many areas drier as humid conditions build ahead of the risk of thunderstorms later in the week.
