GB News erupted into a furious St George's flag debate as guest Susan Boniface told presenter Matt Goodwin to 'get back in his box'. The pair were debating over UK councils' warning against hanging England flags on public property during the World Cup.
Goodwin's Outburst
Matt raged: 'We live in two-tier Britain, very simple. There is absolutely no problem at all with flying the Palestine flag, with flying the Black Lives Matter flag, with flying the Pride flag, with flying the Ukraine flag. You can fly any flag you want, often off a lamppost in public buildings, except the national flag, because our political class wants us to feel ashamed and embarrassed of who we are. But the patriotic majority of people out there, they will not follow that order.'
Boniface Fires Back
Susan hit back: 'Don't look at me like that. I don't think Matt's been outside because loads of people are flying the England flag out,' as Matt tried to interrupt. She said: 'I'm about to explain if you shush.' She then pointed out that in her local town, which is represented by a Reform council, people were being told to take their national flags down from their council properties.
Susan finished: 'But we can all get upset about it and excited and get our knickers in a twist, can't we?'
Clash Over Palestinian Flags
As Matt tried to respond, the pair clashed over Palestinian flags being hung over council buildings, as he said: 'I'm talking, can I finish? You laugh, I'm talking about the hate marches. How do you think British Jews feel? How do you think British Jews feel in this country that have spent years seeing hate imposed on them during marches and protests and flags which have been raised to intimidate them?'
Susan hit back: 'Well, because as you very well know, people have a right of freedom of protest and they can wave a flag unless it's the Islamic State flag, which is a terrorist symbol and they're not allowed to do it, and the Hamas flag as well, which gets people arrested.'
Boniface Tells Goodwin to 'Get Back in Your Box'
Matt asked: 'Do you genuinely not see the hypocrisy?'
Susan erupted: 'Actually, you've had a go at me for speaking over you repeatedly. And when I speak, you shout over me. So just get back in your box for a little moment, let me do my bit and then you can have your word, okay?'
As she went on to explain the councils were asking people to take down flags because it was a safety issue, Matt said: 'You're not actually answering. Literally that. You're not answering my question,' as host Dawn Neesom was forced to end the debate there.
