The Simpsons showrunner Al Jean has dismissed claims from composer Danny Elfman that the long-running animated series is coming to an end after 31 years. Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, Jean confirmed that the show is not only continuing but thriving, with season 32 already in production.
Elfman, who wrote the iconic theme tune and has been with the show since its inception, had suggested in a recent interview that the series would soon conclude. 'From what I’ve heard, it is coming to an end,' he told Joe, adding that he believed the current season would be its last.
However, Jean, who has been part of The Simpsons team since 1992 and showrunner since 2001, set the record straight. 'No disrespect to Mr. Elfman but we are producing season 32 starting next year and have no plans to end after that,' he said. Jean also contributed to The Simpsons Movie and has been instrumental in shaping the show's legacy.
Elfman admitted he was surprised the show had lasted three decades. 'I wrote this crazy piece of music, and I expected no-one would hear it, because I really did not think the show had a chance in hell,' he said. The Simpsons is currently available on Disney+, E4 in the UK, and Fox in the US.
