The showrunner of The Boys, Eric Kripke, has responded to the striking similarity between a scene from the superhero series and a golden statue of Donald Trump recently erected at one of his Florida golf clubs.
Last week's episode of the Amazon Prime Video satire, titled 'Though the Heavens Fall', featured Homelander placing a golden statue of himself in a church, declaring himself the new messiah. Hours after the episode's premiere, Trump unveiled a 15-foot gold statue of himself with a raised fist, nicknamed 'Don Colossus', at Trump National Doral Miami.
Sharing a split image on Instagram of Trump's statue and the golden Homelander statue, Kripke wrote: 'Seriously, what the f***?' The resemblance is not the first parallel between the show and real-world politics. Last month, Trump faced backlash for posting an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus on Truth Social.
This is also not the first time The Boys has mirrored political events. In season four, the series added a disclaimer before an episode originally titled 'Assassination Run' following the July 2024 assassination attempt on Trump. The disclaimer states that similarities to recent events are coincidental and unintentional.
Antony Starr, who plays Homelander, previously rejected comparisons between his character and Trump, calling them 'strange' and stating he did not want the character to be a 'mustache-twirling villain'. The Boys is currently airing its fifth and final season, with new episodes released Wednesdays on Amazon Prime Video.
