Women's darts world champion Beau Greaves has declared she would enthusiastically accept an invitation to compete in the prestigious Premier League Darts, should the opportunity arise.
A Rising Star's Ambition
The 21-year-old from Doncaster has seen her profile skyrocket following a spectacular victory over teenage sensation Luke Littler last month, a win that propelled her to the World Youth Final. This significant achievement has sparked widespread discussion about her potential inclusion among darts' elite.
Adding considerable weight to the conversation, five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld has publicly predicted that a strong performance from Greaves at next month's PDC World Championship would secure her one of the coveted eight spots in the Premier League. The 2025 series was won by Luke Humphries, who defeated Littler in the final, alongside a roster including Stephen Bunting, Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross, Nathan Aspinall, Michael van Gerwen, and Chris Dobey.
Confidence Boost and Sceptical Optimism
Despite the growing hype, Greaves remains cautiously optimistic about her immediate chances. The rising star expressed deep appreciation for the compliments from legends like Van Barneveld, but is sceptical that a Premier League place is imminent.
"It’s just nice – they don’t have to say that sort of stuff. It’s sweet for me. I watched all these players growing up," Greaves admitted when informed of Van Barneveld's endorsement.
She elaborated on her feelings about a potential call-up, stating, "I can’t imagine I would get in the Premier League unless I had a crazy run but I wouldn’t say no! But maybe it’s a bit much for me. It would make it exciting, wouldn’t it?"
Greaves confirmed that her recent win over Littler has been a major catalyst for her self-belief. "When I beat Luke, it did give me a big confidence boost," she revealed. "I suppose I've just lacked confidence over the years, and I've got a little bit of it now."
Proving the Doubters Wrong
The three-time women's world champion is now set for a high-profile television clash against Michael van Gerwen in their opening group match at the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton. The duel carries extra significance, as the Dutchman stated in 2017 that he did not believe a woman would ever be able to compete with the top male players.
Greaves is now in a position to challenge that assertion, though she humorously conceded that she once held a similar view. "To be honest I don’t read much. I said that a few years ago as well. We’ve both said the same thing!"
She noted the varied attitudes on the tour, saying, "Some of the men don’t like playing women. Some don’t care." However, earning her PDC Tour Card has been a game-changer for her mentality. "Since getting my Tour Card I’ve had a bit more belief. I know I can beat anybody. I’ve got the game for it, it’s just doing it at the right time."
As she prepares to face one of the sport's giants, Greaves is keeping her focus simple and positive: "I’m not going to put too much pressure on myself, I’m just going to enjoy it. Who else would you rather play?"
