Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes has responded to reports linking him with a summer move to Manchester United. The Brazilian, nicknamed 'The Pitbull' for his tenacious style, is reportedly being targeted as a replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford.
United's new minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is planning a major squad overhaul in his first transfer window, with Gomes among several targets. The 23-year-old only joined Wolves from Flamengo last year for £15 million but is now valued at around £40 million.
Gomes could form a midfield partnership with Kobbie Mainoo, allowing the England youngster more freedom to attack. United are also linked with Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong, and Crystal Palace's Michael Olise as Ratcliffe looks to reshape the squad.
Speaking about the speculation, Gomes said he is focused on his current club but acknowledged the interest. 'I am happy at Wolves, but it's nice to be linked with a big club like Manchester United,' he said. 'For now, I just want to finish the season strongly.'
