Cameroon's No. 1 goalkeeper Andre Onana has been removed from their World Cup squad following a reported row with manager Rigobert Song. The Inter Milan star is believed to have clashed with Song over his playing style, specifically his tendency to take risks with his feet.
According to reports, the dispute escalated into a shouting match during training, after which Onana was dropped. His replacement, Devis Epassy, conceded three goals in the 3-3 draw with Serbia. Song later claimed Onana's axing was the catalyst for Cameroon's comeback from 3-1 down.
Despite attempts by Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o to mediate, Onana's relationship with the squad is described as 'irreversible'. The goalkeeper has left the squad and will play no further part in the tournament. Cameroon must beat Brazil in their final group game to have a chance of progressing.
