Mourinho Targets Chelsea's Fernandez After Madrid Silva Deal

Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez after reaching an agreement to sign Bernardo Silva, according to recent reports. Silva will become a free agent in July when his contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the month, and the Portugal international has been heavily linked with a move to La Liga, with both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid expressing interest.

Silva's Verbal Agreement with Madrid

However, Spanish outlet Marca reports that Silva has reached a verbal agreement to join Madrid, and both parties are aiming to finalise the transfer before Portugal's World Cup opener against DR Congo next Wednesday. The report adds that Jose Mourinho, who returned to Madrid after Florentino Perez was re-elected as president last Sunday, personally requested the signing of Silva.

Madrid's Midfield Targets

Meanwhile, The Athletic reports that Madrid had targeted Paris Saint-Germain duo Vitinha and Joao Neves to strengthen their midfield, but have been informed that the Champions League holders will not sell. Madrid are now looking at alternative options, and Fernandez is on the club's shortlist alongside West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, who is also wanted by Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea, however, are not actively looking to sell Fernandez, whom they signed in a £107 million deal from Benfica three years ago. Speaking after Chelsea's Champions League exit in March, Fernandez raised doubts over his future at Stamford Bridge. The Argentina international also criticised Chelsea's decision to part ways with Enzo Maresca after the Italian's relationship with the club's hierarchy broke down. Chelsea then handed Fernandez a two-game suspension for his comments about a possible move to Madrid during the international break in March.
