Norway's World Cup squad has taken an unusual approach to tournament preparation by bringing over 1,000kg of their own food to the United States. The shipment includes 300kg of Atlantic salmon and white fish, 116kg of brunost (Norwegian brown cheese), and approximately 6,000 oranges, according to team officials.
Why Norway Brought Its Own Food
The decision is rooted in maintaining players' carefully planned diets and routines during the month-long stay. Lead chef Aron Espeland explained: "We want what we think is good and work with the best Norwegian ingredients available. Being able to serve it when it really matters is something we take pride in."
Norway's preparation extends beyond food. The team reportedly stopped training in North Carolina due to high temperatures, and other European nations were "taking constant breaks" under the scorching American sun, according to reports.
Previous Food Logistics
This is not Norway's first notable food-related preparation. During the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, the Norwegian delegation accidentally ordered 15,000 eggs instead of the intended 1,500.
On-Field Success
Norway has made a strong start to the World Cup, winning all eight qualifiers with 37 goals scored. Erling Haaland contributed 16 goals in qualifying. In their opening Group I match, Norway defeated Iraq 4-1, with Haaland scoring twice on his World Cup debut, along with goals from Leo Ostigard and Kristian Thorstvedt.
The team is now focused on upcoming matches against Senegal and France. A victory against Senegal on June 23 would secure their place in the last 32.
