Man United Latest: Rooney Criticizes Shaw Snub, Greenwood Agrees Roma Transfer
Man United Latest: Rooney on Shaw, Greenwood to Roma

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on the summer transfer window as the World Cup unfolds. Bosses will monitor their 12 players featuring in the tournament across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, while also tracking potential signings.

Mason Greenwood 'Agrees Transfer'

Mason Greenwood is reportedly poised to join Roma on a permanent deal. The former United forward has been prolific for Marseille since moving to the Serie A club, netting 48 goals and providing 17 assists across 81 matches. However, the 24-year-old is now eager to depart after the French outfit missed out on European qualification last campaign.

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport has suggested that Greenwood's salary has already been settled by Roma, who have pinpointed the right-winger as a priority transfer objective this summer. It is believed that the former United player will earn £3.9 million per year from the Italian club plus bonuses, with this figure set to rise the longer he remains. Manager Michael Carrick stands to benefit should this deal go through, as the club negotiated a 40% sell-on clause when Greenwood departed in 2024.

Wayne Rooney Criticises 'Strange' Choice

Wayne Rooney is baffled that Luke Shaw hasn't been drafted into the England squad following Tino Livramento's injury withdrawal. The Newcastle defender was compelled to pull out of the World Cup squad with a calf problem, with Trevoh Chalobah stepping in as his replacement. The Chelsea centre-half will feature at his debut World Cup as a consequence of this injury, and Rooney has labelled this choice 'strange.'

Shaw featured in every Premier League match for United last season and played a key role in securing Champions League qualification for the side. The experienced defender has earned 34 England caps and has competed for his nation at four major tournaments to date – two World Cups and two European Championships. Thomas Tuchel's choice to pick Chalobah caught Rooney off guard, as he thought Shaw would be the German's first consideration.

Speaking on his BBC Sport podcast, the ex-England international said: 'It's a bit strange. I would have liked to have seen Luke Shaw. And then Djed Spence maybe being cover for Reece James, and Luke Shaw come in. I'm sure Thomas Tuchel has kept contact with players to stay available, and I'm sure he (Chalobah) was one of those who were available.'

Michael Carrick will soon reunite with his non-World Cup squad members as he aims to launch a successful first season as permanent boss. Ex-United player Wayne Rooney has been providing punditry for the major competition and has expressed numerous views on television, including this particular observation about Luke Shaw, who hasn't been selected for the England squad on this occasion.
