Mazda CX-30 Named UK's Most Reliable Family Car in New Survey
Mazda CX-30 Tops UK Family Car Reliability Survey

The most reliable family car in the United Kingdom has been identified, and it is neither a Ford nor a BMW. According to a recent survey conducted by Auto Express, the Mazda CX-30 has taken the top spot as the preferred choice for families across the nation.

The Survey Results

Auto Express asked its readers to rate the cars they currently own, focusing on reliability, practicality, and overall satisfaction. The Mazda CX-30, a Japanese compact SUV that has been on the UK market since 2020, achieved an impressive score of 93.37 percent out of 100, securing first place in the family car category.

Owners highlighted the vehicle's excellent driving dynamics and robust build quality. An Auto Express spokesperson commented: "Japanese brands are certainly not a rarity on this list, but it is usually Toyota or Honda claiming the honours. This year, though, it is Mazda's time to shine as the CX-30 small SUV is proving to be as durable with owners as it is enjoyable to drive. While it was pipped at the post by the Toyota Aygo X on the overall 'most reliable car' scoreboard, a second-place finish and top spot in the family car class definitely isn't something to be sniffed at."

Second and Third Place

Coming in second place was the Tesla Model 3 Mk 1, with a score of 92.28 percent. The Tesla, available since 2019, was also named the best car to own in the UK for 2026, earning high marks across all evaluation categories.

Third place went to the Mk 3 BMW 1 Series, scoring 91.79 percent. Also launched in 2019, the BMW was praised for its reliability, infotainment system, and driving experience.

Cost of Living Impact

The survey arrives at a time when many UK families are feeling the pinch from the ongoing cost of living crisis. According to temporary car insurance provider Tempcover, four in 10 car owners have reduced the number of vehicles they own. A poll of 2,000 adults revealed that households downsizing from two or more cars to just one saved approximately £1,500 on average.

Paul Gilshan, CEO of Tempcover, commented: "Our research shows that for households that have downsized, one car works well. People are better off financially, it fits how they're working and living now, and they're more intentional about when they use it - and it's better for the environment. In many ways, these households are already practising a form of car sharing - coordinating access, prioritising who needs it most, making it work around everyone's schedule. The car is more of a shared resource rather than a personal fixture, and that mindset is only going to grow."

The Mazda CX-30 thus stands out not only for its reliability but also as a practical choice for families navigating tighter budgets.
