Royal Mail is encouraging children to write letters to their favourite Three Lions players to show their support during the FIFA 2026 World Cup, as part of a new writing campaign designed to teach mini-football fans the value of writing letters.
The UK postal service is urging children aged 4-17 to write letters wishing the teams and players well during the North American tournament in the hopes of inspiring a whole new generation to get involved in a way that feels forgotten in recent years.
Campaign Details and Quotes
Royal Mail chief executive Alistair Cochrane said: “Sporting moments like this bring people together across the country, and we wanted to give children a simple and meaningful way to get involved. Writing a letter is a personal way to show support, and we hope this campaign encourages young people to take part while highlighting the value of sending letters.”
Children across England and Scotland are encouraged to write to their favourite players or the whole team. Letters can be sent to Freepost addresses: World Class Letters Freepost England or World Class Letters Freepost Scotland.
England's World Cup Prospects
England is one of the odds-on favourites to win this year's World Cup, after joint favourites Spain and France. If the Three Lions were to pull off a tournament win, football would finally come home and end a 60-year World Cup drought. Fans are hopeful after an impressive 4-2 win over Croatia on Wednesday night. At half-time, the Three Lions were level 2-2 with their European counterparts, despite two goals from England captain Harry Kane. Goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford in the second half saw Thomas Tuchel’s England cross the line for the win.
Scotland's Performance
It has been a mixed bag so far for Scotland, with Steve Clarke’s squad beating Haiti 1-0 in its opening match last week. The game was Scotland's first at a World Cup since 1990, giving them a strong possibility of qualifying for the last 32. However, despite a game of utter resilience against a strong Morocco squad on Friday, Scotland ended up losing 1-0, conceding the only goal of the game within the first 70 seconds. Scotland will face off against Brazil in Miami on Thursday, while England will continue their tournament campaign on Tuesday, when they face Ghana in Boston.
