The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a major recall for thousands of power strips sold on Amazon, citing a severe fire hazard that could lead to serious injuries or fatalities. The recall specifically targets CCCEI Power Strips, which lack essential supplementary overcurrent protection, making them prone to catching fire if overloaded.
Critical Safety Warning from CPSC
In an official announcement, the CPSC emphasised that the absence of overcurrent safeguards in these power strips creates a dangerous scenario. "The resulting fire can cause serious injury or death from smoke inhalation and burns," the commission stated, underscoring the gravity of the risk. This recall follows at least two reports of the products sparking and melting, although no fires or injuries have been confirmed as of the announcement date.
Details of the Recalled Product
More than 5,500 units of the CCCEI Power Strips were sold on Amazon between April 2024 and January 2026, with prices ranging from $23 to $30. The recalled models feature six receptacles, each with individual on/off switches, and are available with power cords measuring 6 feet, 10 feet, or 15 feet in length. The retailer, China-based Middle Way Electronics, has been contacted for comment regarding the recall.
Broader Context of Recent Recalls
This power strip recall is part of a wider trend of safety alerts from the CPSC. Earlier in the month, the commission warned about recalled Wagner 900 Series Power Steamers, which pose a burn hazard due to an issue with the attached hose. Approximately 700,000 steamers were recalled after Wagner received over 156 reports of the hose overheating or the nozzle expelling hot water, resulting in more than 50 burn injuries, including first- and second-degree burns to consumers' arms, hands, feet, and face.
The steamers were sold on Amazon and at major retailers such as Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, and Target. The CPSC highlighted that the hose can become excessively hot, and the nozzle or gun may discharge hot water during or after use, creating a serious burn risk. These incidents underscore the importance of vigilance in product safety and the role of regulatory bodies in protecting consumers from potentially hazardous goods.
