Fruit-Shaped Sorbet Recalled Over Undeclared Milk Allergen Concerns

A popular ice cream product designed to look like a piece of fruit has been urgently removed from shelves following warnings about an undeclared allergen. The frozen sorbet, produced by Family Select, includes flavours such as mango, strawberry, and lychee, and may contain milk, according to Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ).

Potential Health Risks for Consumers

FSANZ issued a statement highlighting the dangers for individuals with milk allergies or intolerances. Any consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance may experience a reaction if the product is consumed, the agency cautioned. The affected sorbets have best before dates up to and including June 22, 2027, and consumers are advised to return the products to their place of purchase for a full refund.

In addition, FSANZ recommended that anyone concerned about their health should seek immediate medical advice. The recall underscores the importance of accurate food labelling to prevent allergic reactions.

Distribution and Availability

The product has been sold at Spudshed stores in Western Australia and through various online platforms. This widespread availability has prompted a swift response from authorities to ensure public safety. The recall serves as a reminder for retailers and manufacturers to adhere strictly to food safety regulations.

Consumers are urged to check their purchases and dispose of or return any affected items to avoid potential health issues.
