Jet2 Reminds Passengers of Cashless Payment 'Rule' for 2026 Flights
Jet2 Reminds Passengers of Cashless Rule for 2026 Flights

Jet2 has reminded passengers of an important payment policy for flights in 2026, warning that failing to prepare could leave travellers unable to purchase snacks, drinks, or other onboard items. The airline operates a fully cashless service on all flights, accepting only card and contactless payments.

Cashless Policy Confirmed

The reminder came after a passenger, Kim, asked Jet2's customer service team on X whether cash is accepted onboard. Jet2 responded within minutes, stating: 'Hi Kim, that is correct. We operate a fully cashless service onboard all flights, accepting only card and contactless payments.'

Aside from food and drinks, Jet2 offers a selection of in-flight purchases, including skincare, makeup, beauty products, watches, and more, available via the onboard magazine.

Why Airlines Are Going Cashless

Accepting payments by debit or credit card, including Apple Pay and Google Pay, helps cabin crew serve passengers quickly and smoothly while in the air. It removes the need for staff to handle cash and keep it secure during flights.

In the UK, businesses are under no legal obligation to accept cash. While cash is legal tender, businesses have the right to set their own terms of sale and choose which payment methods to accept, as confirmed by Parliament. A business can legally refuse cash, provided it informs customers of its card-only policy.

Jet2 makes its policy clear on its website. A spokesperson said: 'Just so you know, we only accept card and contactless payments onboard all our flights. You'll need to bring your physical bank card to use chip and PIN when purchasing products from our Jet2shop.'

Additional Update for Greece

In other news, Jet2 has shared a new update for passengers with flights and holidays booked to Greece. On April 28, the firm announced that Greek authorities have 'prioritised customers' by suspending the European Union's new Entry/Exit System (EES) checks. This suspension of biometric checks applies to UK holidaymakers travelling to Greece.
