The infamous West Sussex property once owned by Katie Price, notoriously dubbed the 'Mucky Mansion', has undergone a dramatic transformation under its new owner following a repossession sale.
From 'Cursed' Home to Exceptional Property
Former model and media personality Katie Price was evicted from the nine-bedroom manor house after failing to keep up mortgage payments. The property, located in Sussex, was sold for £1.15 million in December 2024, with all proceeds going towards her debts. Price had frequently described the house as "cursed" and claimed living there caused her significant anxiety, even requiring therapy.
However, the new owner, Northern Irish furniture boss James Mercer, saw potential where others saw despair. After acquiring the property at a cut-price following its repossession, Mercer embarked on a comprehensive renovation. New aerial photographs show scaffolding around the house, signalling the scale of the work.
A Major Renovation Underway
The extensive refurbishment is still ongoing, but significant progress is already visible. Reports confirm the house now boasts a new roof, door, windows, and exterior walls. A neighbour quoted by the Mail remarked on the challenging state of the property, stating the new owners "had their work cut out". They added, "They would have been tempted to knock it down and start again. But they clearly know what they're doing and when it's finished, the house is going to look exceptional."
This stands in stark contrast to the condition the house was left in, which was described as being in serious disrepair and strewn with piles of rubbish during Price's ownership.
Katie Price Defends Her New Rental Home
Meanwhile, Katie Price, who now rents a different property for £4,500 a month, has been forced to defend herself against claims that she is creating another 'Mucky Mansion'. Aerial photos of her current rented home showed it surrounded by bags and debris, leading to criticism.
Price hit back on her Instagram Stories, expressing disappointment. She explained that the rubbish was simply post-Christmas waste waiting for collection, a situation faced by many families after the holiday period. She asserted the mess had been cleared and denied any neglect, stating, "there's absolutely no truth to the idea that I'm letting my home become dirty or neglected."
Family Echoes of a 'Scary' House
The sense of the mansion being an unhappy place was echoed by Price's family. Her 18-year-old daughter, Princess Andre, reflected on her childhood there during her 2025 TV show, calling it a "really scary house" where "a lot went on".
Price herself has elaborated on supernatural fears, telling her sister on her podcast that her son Jett believed a "boy ghost" was attached to him, preventing him from entering a particular bedroom in the mansion.
The story of the Mucky Mansion concludes with a tale of two fortunes: a fresh start and a remarkable renovation for the property, while its former owner continues to navigate public scrutiny in her latest chapter.
