Shoppers across the UK are being urged to take note of Aldi's revised opening hours over the 2025 festive period. The discount supermarket giant has confirmed its schedule, which includes several early closures and full-day shutdowns to allow staff time off.
Aldi's Festive Opening Schedule: What You Need to Know
The key changes to Aldi's usual trading pattern begin on Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24 December. Stores will shut their doors at the earlier time of 6pm, instead of the typical 10pm weekday closing. Following this, all Aldi branches will remain closed on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day (25 and 26 December).
Normal service resumes from Saturday 27 December, when shops open at 8am. Standard hours will then apply until New Year's Eve, Wednesday 31 December, when another early closure at 6pm comes into effect. Stores will then be closed on New Year's Day, Thursday 1 January, reopening with standard hours from Friday 2 January.
Plan Your Shop: Aldi's Tips for a Quieter Experience
Alongside the altered hours, Aldi has shared advice to help customers navigate the busy Christmas rush. The supermarket suggests that the quietest times to visit in the run-up to the big day are typically between 8am and 10am, and again from 8pm to 10pm.
For those making last-minute dashes, the retailer predicts that Sunday 21 December and Christmas Eve itself, Wednesday 24 December, will be the overall quietest days to pick up essential items.
"The final countdown to Christmas can feel overwhelming, but a little planning goes a long way," said Rachel Geary, Communications Director at Aldi UK. "Visiting stores in quieter moments means a faster, smoother shop, so customers can focus on what really matters – enjoying the festivities with family and friends."
Expansion Continues: New Stores Open Before Christmas
In related news, Aldi recently accelerated its UK expansion by opening five new stores in just 24 hours. New branches in Uxbridge, Old Kent Road, Northallerton, and Pershore welcomed customers on 11 December, followed by a store in Yate on 12 December.
This expansion wave created 200 new jobs and brings Aldi's total UK store count to approximately 1,070. The company has ambitious long-term plans to grow its estate to 1,500 stores nationwide.
"Opening any new store is exciting, but opening five in 24 hours, just before Christmas, will make a huge difference for customers in each of these areas," commented Jon Neale, Real Estate Managing Director at Aldi UK. "It reflects the demand we’re seeing right across the UK and the scale of our ambition as we continue to grow."
Shoppers are advised to check their local Aldi's specific hours, as some store times, particularly on Sundays, may vary slightly from the national guide.
