Amazon has reduced the price of its latest Kindle model by £20, bringing it down to £74.99 in a limited-time deal. The offer runs until 9am on April 9, 2026, and applies to the basic Kindle, which normally retails at £94.99.
The Kindle is currently less than half the price of the Kindle Paperwhite, which costs £159.99. The main differences between the two are screen size and lighting: the Kindle has a 6-inch glare-free display, while the Paperwhite's screen is an inch larger and offers adjustable warmth for the screen light. Both devices feature 300ppi resolution, 16GB of storage, and at least six weeks of battery life. The Kindle is available in black or matcha green.
Amazon's main competitor in the e-reader market is Kobo's Clara range. The black-and-white Clara model costs £129.99, while the Clara Colour is priced at £149.99. This undercuts Amazon's colour e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft, which is currently £189, down from £239.99. A key advantage of Kobo devices is compatibility with Libby, which allows users to borrow ebooks and audiobooks from local libraries for free. Kindle does not support Libby, though it offers the Prime library and Kindle Unlimited, which includes a 30-day free trial and typically comes with three months of free access upon purchase.
The Kindle has received an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 from over 5,900 global reviews. One customer described it as 'brilliant' and 'very light in weight,' while another praised it as an ideal travel companion. However, some users noted that finding the correct case can be challenging due to the variety of Kindle models.
