Americans needing to send last-minute festive parcels or access postal services have a final opportunity on Wednesday, 24 December 2025, as the United States Postal Service (USPS) has confirmed its branches will be open on Christmas Eve.
Final Day for Festive Postal Services
While the service will operate on the day before Christmas, officials are strongly urging the public to verify the specific opening times for their local branch. The USPS has stated that services and hours of operation may vary by location. The most straightforward method to confirm local arrangements is to use the official online tool at usps.com/holidayhours.
Regular mail collection and delivery will also take place across the country on 24 December. This provides a final window for holiday cards and packages to enter the system before the festive shutdown.
Complete Closures on Major Holidays
All Post Office locations nationwide will then close fully for Christmas Day, Thursday, 25 December. There will be no mail delivery or access to counter services on this day.
Normal service is scheduled to resume on Friday, 26 December, when offices reopen and regular mail delivery begins again.
New Year's Day Shutdown
A second major holiday closure will follow shortly after. The USPS will also shut all operations for New Year's Day, Thursday, 1 January. Similar to Christmas Day, all post offices will be closed and mail delivery will be halted for the national holiday.
Residents are advised to plan their essential postal needs around these confirmed closures to avoid any inconvenience during the festive period.
