Manchester United are actively monitoring their options in the transfer market as the World Cup unfolds, with several players reportedly on the wishlist. Marcus Rashford has been shining for England, scoring in their 4-2 victory over Croatia, but his future at Old Trafford remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Croatia midfielder Martin Baturina has emerged as a new target after impressing against England.
Rashford U-turn Plea
Rio Ferdinand has called on Manchester United to reconsider selling Marcus Rashford following his impressive performances for Barcelona and England this year. The winger helped Barcelona secure the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup before scoring off the bench in England's opening World Cup fixture. Reports suggest the club have set a £40 million price tag on the 28-year-old, with several Premier League clubs expressing interest. Ferdinand, however, insists it is time for both the club and player to move past their differences, despite previously saying there was no way back for him at his boyhood club.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former United defender said: "Do you know what, Manchester United might have to start re-evaluating Marcus Rashford's situation. I'm happy to change, I'm happy to change. I'm not wrong and strong, that's not my game. I'm happy to change. It seems like Marcus Rashford has matured, the time away from the club may have done him the good he needed and maybe it's cleansed both parties. Is it time? Is it time to shake hands and for him to say, 'I'm back?'"
World Cup Target Identified
Martin Baturina has allegedly attracted attention following his impressive goal against England on Wednesday evening. The 23-year-old netted the first of two Croatia equalisers before Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford secured victory for the Three Lions. Sky Italia claims Manchester United are among a number of English clubs interested in Baturina, a pursuit that also includes Leeds United and Aston Villa. Bayern Munich have also made enquiries about the attacking midfielder.
Como have no plans to part with Baturina on the cheap, having already rejected a £43 million bid for the Croatia international. Baturina joined the Serie A outfit last summer from Dinamo Zagreb and is only 12 months into his five-year contract.
United's Transfer Activity
Michael Carrick will soon welcome back those players not involved in the World Cup and is busy compiling his summer priorities for the Old Trafford hierarchy. Uncertainty continues to surround the academy product's future, with Barcelona said to remain interested in a loan arrangement and other clubs circling. The Manchester Evening News examines some of the latest stories surrounding Old Trafford as the club works on transfers both in and out.
