A tragic incident in the Thai resort island of Phuket has resulted in the death of an Australian man after he ran into a restaurant's glass door.
Chaotic Scene at Phuket Restaurant
Thai police were called to the Cappadocia Turkish Restaurant in Karon, Phuket, at approximately 10.30pm on December 11. The emergency call followed reports of a disturbance involving a foreign national.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a scene of devastation. The business's glass entrance door was completely shattered, and a large pool of blood was visible on the floor. The Australian man involved had already been rushed from the scene for urgent medical attention.
Fatal Injuries and CCTV Footage
The man was taken to Chalong Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The cause of death was confirmed as severe blood loss from a deep cut on his right leg, sustained during the violent impact.
Authorities reviewed closed-circuit television footage from inside the establishment to piece together the events. The CCTV showed the Australian entering the restaurant alone and taking a seat. His behaviour quickly became erratic and disorientated, causing several nearby diners to move away from him.
The footage captured the man repeatedly nodding his head before suddenly standing up. He then sprinted towards the glass door while yelling, shocking staff and remaining customers. The force of the collision shattered the glass pane, and the man collapsed outside the premises.

A formal Thai investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death is now underway. Key questions remain about what prompted his sudden and fatal actions. It is not yet publicly known if his family in Australia has been formally notified.
